40 years without the legend John Lennon
Today marks 40 years since the assassination of John Lennon, the event that shook the world. Lennon was shot twice in the back and once in the shoulder by Mark David Chapman on December 8, 1980.
His assassination shocked not only family members and America, but an entire generation that had grown up with his songs, feeding on the ideals of peace and freedom.
"Imagine" (1971) was the song that became an international anthem of pacifism.
Even 40 years later he continues to inspire, remaining one of the greatest icons ever produced by popular culture, a man who thanks to music and commitment to peace changed the world.
Lennon gained fame as a member of the Beatles and shortly before his assassination, he was enjoying a successful solo career with music and his wife, Yoko Ono.
